Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):
Ability to do the work of an Metal Processing Leader without more than normal supervision.Effectively lead others in metal processing work such as fabricating, welding, forging, repairing and reconditioning of sheet metal replacement parts, assemblies, and/or subassemblies; (2) passing on to other workers the instructions and getting work started by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led; and (3) checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Required to lift/carry items weighing up to 44 lbs. Mechanical lifting devices/other employees are available to assist with lifts of 45 lbs and over. There may be some heavy work during tool changes. Climbs ladders and stairs, bends, walks crawls. Work may involve long periods of walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling or sitting as required. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Usually works indoors except to check on outdoor equipment, sometimes in bad weather. Area is noisy, dirty, and smoky. Hearing protection is required. There is adequate ventilation and light indoors. May be subject to small amounts of infra-red radiation. Welding involves exposure to fumes, infra-red and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, and the glare of torches and heated materials, the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. During Heat Treating, skin may be exposed to burns, scalds, and skin irritations. Requires the worker to wear uncomfortable safety equipment such as protective clothing, rubber gloves, rubber aprons, eye goggles, face shields/flash shields or a respirator. Subject to combustible and toxic gas fumes. Handles hazardous waste as required.
